Monograph Beli i črni rudari

Monograph on Coal and Oil Mining in the Wider Area of Mursko Središće

Client: City of Mursko Središće

Mursko Središće, the northernmost town in Croatia, carries the proud title “Grad rudara” (Miners’ Town). Its development in the 20th century was deeply shaped by coal and oil mining. The monograph “Beli i črni rudari” (White and Black Miners) is a comprehensive, richly illustrated book that preserves this important industrial and social heritage.

We were responsible for the complete graphic design, art direction, and layout of the 170+ page publication. The design balances historical authenticity with contemporary elegance — using a strong, dignified typographic system, carefully treated archival photographs, subtle mining-inspired details, and a warm yet serious color palette that reflects both the darkness of the mines and the light of human stories.

The book covers the history of mining, technological development, daily life of miners and their families, demographic and infrastructural impact on the town, and the human cost of this demanding work.
